The Apartment Maintenance Academy (A.M.A.) presents Maintenance & Repair 101, a 4-week foundational training designed to equip maintenance professionals with the essential skills needed to confidently support and maintain their communities.

This series focuses on real-world application, hands-on learning, and practical techniques that can be implemented immediately in the field. From general maintenance and appliances to plumbing and electrical systems, participants will gain a well-rounded understanding of the core responsibilities of a maintenance technician.

Whether you are new to the industry or looking to strengthen your skill set, this course provides the foundation needed to grow, perform, and succeed in today’s rental housing environment.

Attendees who complete all four classes will receive an A.M.A. Maintenance & Repair Certificate, recognizing their commitment to professional development and foundational technical competency in the rental housing industry.

Kick off the series by understanding the role of a maintenance technician and building the core skills needed for day-to-day operations.

  • Understanding the role of a maintenance technician and professionalism
  • How to be an ambassador for your community
  • Drywall repair, taping, mudding, texture, priming, and painting
  • Framing basics including walls, doors, and windows
  • Minor deck repair techniques

In the appliances module you will learn how to diagnose and repair common appliance issues before replacement becomes necessary.

    • Troubleshooting gas and electric ranges
    • Diagnosing and repairing common dishwasher issues
    • Refrigerator basics and identifying when to call a professional

In the plumbing module you will gain hands-on knowledge of plumbing systems and essential repair techniques.

  • Proper use of drain cleaning equipment
  • Drain line assembly and installation
  • Water heater troubleshooting
  • Installing common plumbing fixtures

In the electrical module you will learn to Understand electrical systems, safety protocols, and how to troubleshoot common issues.
